David Cronenberg's second "real" movie was "Rabid." It was released in Special Edition in 2004. That is the DVD to view, as it has commentary and an interview.
This is a must see movie. One could posit all the recent "zombie" movies in the past decade have origin in "Rabid." Having seen and not understood this movie at age 12, I get it now. I remember the orifice, and weird needle that extracts blood and spreads the disease.
Too bad that Sissy Spacek wasn't cast. That would've been amazing.
